2022 Lund 2075 Pro-V, Merc 250 Pro XS, 140 hours, bought blind through Lake Park Auto Connection for a guide boat

guide out of Walker on Leech, ten summers, licensed through the band. needed a second boat for groups of four and five by next july, my 2016 1875 Pro-V with a 150 holds three clients and that is it. new 2075 Pro-V with a 250 at the dealer in Brainerd was 106,900 rigged and 14 weeks out. this is what i did instead. typing between clients so it is numbers, not a story.

the boat. 2022 Lund 2075 Pro-V. Mercury 250 Pro XS, 140 hours on the VesselView. Ultrex 112 with i-Pilot Link. Helix 12 at the console. Shoreland'r tandem trailer with brakes. travel cover. sat at a lender yard outside Fort Wayne, Indiana since april, credit union repo.

the seller. lakeparkautoconnection.com, a client of mine who works asset recovery at a Fargo credit union sent me there. they sell repossessed boats, trucks, RVs and equipment for lenders, out of Lake Park down by Detroit Lakes, except nothing is in Lake Park. the boat stays at the lender's yard, you send one sealed number, top number wins, nobody sees anybody else's bid before or after. i lost a 2021 Ranger 620FS through them in august by bidding book value, so i knew that part going in.

the money. bid 71,400. dealers in Brainerd and Alexandria had 21 and 22 2075s with 225s and 250s at 79 to 88 with more hours. no premium, 71,400 bid, 71,400 wired. delivery cost me nothing, Fort Wayne to Walker is about 780 miles and they do not charge until you pass a thousand. boat was in my yard tuesday, 9 days after the wire.

the marina report. the lender had a marina go through it at repo and the outfit in lake park sent me the two pages when i asked, took two days to show up. ECM hours 139.6. compression even across all eight. lower unit lube clean. hull and transom no damage. one line about the cranking battery testing weak. on top of that i paid a surveyor out of Fort Wayne 400 to put his own eyes on it before i bid.

two questions for the motor guys. one, a 2022 250 Pro XS, does whatever is left of the factory warranty follow the motor to me or did it die with the first owner, and how do i find out if he bought the extension. two, it sat dry april to september. pull the lower unit and do the impeller now at 140 hours, or run it and watch the pressure gauge.

kayla_first_rig wrotehow did you actually know the 140 hours was true from a photo of a screen? if somebody unplugs the gauge and puts in a different one does the number change?

good question and the answer is what the tech said above. on a SmartCraft motor the hours live in the engine computer. the VesselView screen only displays them. swap the screen, same hours. what i did was ask for a photo of the engine hours page on the VesselView with the key on, and the marina report i mentioned has the ECM number, 139.6. two sources that agree. i also asked if a surveyor of mine could get into the yard. no problem as long as i paid him, so a marine surveyor out of Fort Wayne went and looked for 400 bucks. he spent an hour, sent me 60 photos and a page of notes, and that page of notes is why i bid.

no water test. that is the honest limitation of buying this way. the motor ran on muffs in the video and for the surveyor, that is it. i decided the surveyor plus the 30 day misrepresentation guarantee plus the 6 month warranty on the listing covered enough of that risk for the price. a rookie on a first boat should probably buy close to home and put it in the water. i had the surveyor and ten years of knowing what a 2075 should look like.

mostly the boat from the pictures. the lake park people set up a transporter, an independent guy with a 3/4 ton Ram. he called me from Fort Wayne on the day he hooked up, once from Madison, and once from Park Rapids the morning he arrived. boat came on its own Shoreland'r trailer with the Lund travel cover on and a ratchet strap over the cover which i did not love, it rubbed a shiny spot on the cowl.

the surprises, two and a half of them. one, the cranking battery was dead flat, the marina report said weak and five more months in a yard finished it. group 27 from Fleet Farm in Bemidji, 165. two, the bow graph was gone. the listing photos showed a RAM mount and a cut transducer cable at the bow and i had seen that and figured it out, someone pulled the Helix from the bow before the bank got it. the console Helix 12 was there and works. the half: the two trailer tires on the driver side had dry rot cracks in the sidewall, not in any photo, i would not have towed it to Duluth on them.

everything else was as listed. Ultrex 112 works, spot lock works, livewells fill, the 250 fired on the second crank with a new battery and idled at 600 with 22 psi water pressure on the gauge.

fair, and i knew that boat. i drove down and looked at it in august. 410 hours, a 225 not a 250, a Terrova not an Ultrex, no graph at all, single axle trailer with no brakes, and 64,900 was before their 499 doc fee and the prep charge. same year, not the same boat.

did i pay 2 or 3 over what a patient man would have paid? probably. i lost the Ranger by being patient and i had july bookings to think about. what i got for the 71,400 was a 250 with 140 hours, an Ultrex, a Helix 12, a tandem with brakes, the survey i chose to pay for, the 30 day guarantee and a 6 month warranty on the boat, none of which the Brainerd boat had. you can think i overpaid. i think i paid retail for a boat i could not water test and got a tandem trailer and 1,200 in electronics for it.

here is the whole stack. one, an Indiana certificate of title for the boat in the previous owner's name with the credit union listed as lienholder and the lien section signed off by the credit union. two, a separate lien release letter on the credit union's letterhead with the HIN and the motor serial on it. three, an Indiana title for the trailer, same setup, separate lien release. four, a bill of sale. seller: the credit union. broker: Lake Park Auto Connection. it says right on it that the broker never owned the boat.

before wiring i looked up the credit union's main number myself instead of trusting the letterhead, got their collateral department, and a woman there read me the release off her screen. four minutes.

registrar in Walker: Minnesota titles boats 16 feet and over, so the 2075 got a Minnesota title and a 3 year registration. the trailer got a Minnesota title through DVS since it is over the weight where they title them. one snag: the clerk wanted the lien release notarized. the letter was, the title signature was not, and she accepted the letter with the title. sales tax i paid at the counter on the bill of sale amount. ask your own registrar what they charge on a bank sale before you go in, i did not and it was a bigger check than i planned for that morning.

check in. 190 hours on the VesselView, so 50 of mine, all clients, Walker Bay and the Pine Point side through the end of the season. groups of five fit and nobody is sitting on a cooler. i put a used Helix 10 on the bow for 650 off a guy in Nisswa and ran a new transducer cable, so the bow is whole again. two trailer tires, 310 in Bemidji. the dealer in Brainerd pulled the engine report for me, hours matched, one low voltage alarm logged back in april which was the yard battery dying, nothing else.

the 6 month warranty has not come up and i hope it does not. the impeller is on my list before the boat goes in the shed.

UPDATE, december. two things, one problem and one answer.

the problem. october 29, last client trip of the year, i got the low water pressure alarm on the VesselView coming across Walker Bay at 4,200 rpm. pressure had been 22 psi all fall and it dropped to 9. shut it down, came in on the Ultrex, which is a long ride. pulled the lower unit in the shop that weekend. the impeller had three vanes set flat against the housing from the five months it sat in Indiana, exactly what the tech said in post 2 and exactly what i had put off. kit was 92 at the dealer in Brainerd, two hours with the manual open. pressure back to 22. i did not call it in on the warranty for 92 dollars and i doubt they would have covered a wear part anyway. that was on me, not on the lake park auction, i was told in september.

the answer to the 1875 question. 214 hours on the meter now, boat is winterized and in the shed, and total spent since it landed is 165 battery, 310 tires, 92 impeller, 650 used Helix 10, 400 survey. 1,617. the 30 day guarantee i never touched, nothing was misrepresented. for a second boat that i could afford to be wrong about, i would do it again and i probably will when the 1875 gets tired. for a weekend guy buying his only boat, i would still say send the surveyor and get the engine report pulled by a dealer before the 30 days run out, and if you cannot do both, buy something you can water test.
